THIBODAUX, La. (AP) - Prosecutors have dropped felony charges against a 26-year-old Thibodaux man accused of hitting and kicking his pregnant girlfriend last year.

The Daily Comet reports (https://bit.ly/20SYQ76) Leveron Scot was charged with attempted first-degree feticide and domestic abuse battery of a pregnant victim. He was set for trial last week in Thibodaux.

However, Lafourche Parish District Attorney Cam Morvant II said his office dismissed the attempted feticide charge because the woman would not take the witness stand.

Morvant says prosecutors will not go through the process of selecting a jury from hundreds of potential jurors if they know the alleged victim won’t testify.

Morvant says his office may go forward with the domestic abuse charges.
