YPSILANTI, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say a student has died at a southeastern Michigan school but are offering few details.

Police and school officials say the Washtenaw International Middle Academy student died Wednesday afternoon at the Ypsilanti school. Ypsilanti Community Schools Superintendent Benjamin Edmondson said in a statement that it was a “tragic incident” of a “non-violent nature,” but declined to elaborate.

The student hasn’t been identified but officials say the district has contacted relatives.

The Associated Press left phone messages for police and school officials.

The school was on lockdown during the incident and is expected to reopen Thursday, with counselors available to work with students and staff members.
