NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Authorities have identified a body found in the Bonnet Carre Spillway earlier this month.

Multiple media outlets report the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office says the body belongs to 88-year-old Estelle Webb of New Orleans. Webb’s death is being investigated as a homicide.

Sheriff’s office spokesman Capt. Patrick Yoes says officials confirmed the body was Webb’s by matching its DNA to genetic material taken from Webb’s personal items.

Detectives say Webb was reported missing May 6 from her home.

Her body was found May 4 in Lake Pontchartrain, just west of the entrance canal to the lower section of the Bonnet Carre Spillway.

Deputies say the body was found in an advanced decomposed state.
