AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - The deadline has arrived for candidates who aren’t affiliated with a recognized political party to file their petitions for federal, state and county offices in Maine.

Candidates who want to have their names on the Nov. 8 ballot must submit signed petitions by Wednesday. The petitions go to the Department of the Secretary of State’s Bureau of Corporations, Elections and Commissions.

The rules apply to candidates who aren’t members of the Democratic, Republican or Green Independent party.

The number of signatures needed depends on the office the candidate is seeking.
