RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - A Henrico woman has been sentenced to a year in prison in the death of her 6-month-old son, who suffocated while alone in an RV.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports (https://bit.ly/1r2B63V) 29-year-old Sabrina Malick pleaded no contest Tuesday to involuntary manslaughter and child neglect in Brendon Newton’s death.

Police say Brendon was found unresponsive Sept. 12 in an RV parked along Jefferson Davis Highway.

Officials say he was left alone for seven hours, during which time he became wedged upside down between a couch and the driver’s seat of the RV and suffocated.

Malick and the child’s father, 46-year-old Walter Newton, were both initially charged with second-degree murder. Those charges were reduced as part of a plea agreement.

Newton was sentenced to one year in prison after pleading to the same lesser charges.
