JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) - Former Anchorage Mayor Dan Sullivan has filed to run against Republican U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski in this summer’s GOP primary.

Wednesday was the deadline for candidates to file ahead of the August primary. Sullivan is among the GOP challengers in the race.

On the Democratic side, candidates include Edgar Blatchford and Ray Metcalfe.

Libertarian Cean Stevens also is running.

A number of candidates also are vying to be on the general election ballot as unaffiliated candidates, including Margaret Stock. Independent candidates do not go through the primary.

Murkowski lost her 2010 primary to tea party favorite Joe Miller and held onto her seat by waging a write-in campaign.

If Sullivan were to prevail, Alaska would have two U.S. senators with the name Dan Sullivan.
