PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Philadelphia police say an off-duty officer fired at a suspect after the officer’s motorcycle was involved in a crash with a vehicle that fled the scene, and that one bullet smashed into a nearby hospital’s lobby.

Police say nobody was hurt by the shot that hit the window at Temple University Hospital’s outpatient service center.

The name of the officer, who reportedly fired three shots about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, hasn’t been released.

Police say they’ve found a Chevrolet Monte Carlo with a bullet hole in it. Police Commissioner Richard Ross says the driver was being questioned, though it wasn’t immediately clear if he’ll face charges.

Ross says it’s against police regulations to shoot at a fleeing vehicle, though he’s not sure whether the shooting might have been justified for other reasons.
