PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Philadelphia police say a 77-year-old man found dead in his home was apparently beaten in two separate incidents by intruders over the weekend.

Police have yet to release the name of the victim found dead Tuesday afternoon in his home.

Lt. John Walker said police now believe the man was beaten by intruders Friday night, but didn’t seek medical treatment. Then, police believe intruders - probably the same group from the earlier burglary - attacked him again late Sunday into early Monday.

Police and fire crews were called to the home the second time, about 1 a.m., after someone reported screams coming from the residence and three young men fleeing the house.

Police didn’t enter the house at that time, and didn’t find the man dead until a relative asked them to check on him Tuesday.
