PHOENIX (AP) - Phoenix police say a suspect is dead after being shot by police.

Sgt. Trent Crump says the man who was shot exchanged gunfire with police who responded to a report of an armed man yelling profanity and banging on doors and windows at a strip mall early Wednesday morning.

Crump says no officers were injured.

He says a worker cleaning the strip mall’s parking lot called 911 to report the man’s conduct. Firefighters arrived first. They saw the man with the gun and got the caller to safety.

According to Crump, police then arrived and saw the man behind a brick pillar.

He says circumstances of the subsequent shooting are under investigation.
