TEMECULA, Calif. (AP) - A house fire in San Diego County spread to surrounding brush and briefly forced the brief evacuation of about 100 people from nearby homes.

State fire officials say the blaze in the Indian reservation community of Pala broke out in the two-story home near State Route 76 Tuesday afternoon. It had charred 45 acres of brush a few hours later.

The acreage held steady and the fire was 15 percent contained early Wednesday.

CalFire spokesman Kendall Bortisser says mandatory evacuations were ordered on just one road, but about 100 people were forced to leave. They were able to return about two hours later.

The area is just south of Temecula and about 50 miles north of San Diego.
