MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - A five year-veteran of the law enforcement division of the Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife is the state’s new warden of the year.

Warden Robert Currier was honored Tuesday by Gov. Peter Shumlin at the Statehouse in Montpelier.

Currier’s coverage area includes the towns of South Hero, Milton, Colchester, Winooski, Burlington, South Burlington, Westford, Essex, Underhill, and Jericho.

Currier’s supervisor, Warden Lt. Curtis Smiley, says Currier apprehends a high volume of violators and despite his effectiveness as a warden, he remains highly respected as a member of the sporting community.

Currier has served as a warden since 2011.
