HAMDEN, Conn. (AP) - Police have arrested a man they say stabbed a 62-year-old woman inside a Hamden Walmart.

Officers responded to the Dixwell Avenue store at about 6:45 p.m. Tuesday to find the victim on the floor near the cash registers suffering from a stab wound to the chest.

The Hamden woman was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital for treatment. Her condition wasn’t immediately known.

Police arrested the suspect, 68-year-old Nathaniel Williams, of New Haven, outside the store.

Police say Williams knows the woman but did not disclose a possible motive.

Williams is charged with first-degree assault and breach of peace. He was held on $50,000 bond pending a Wednesday court appearance. It could not be determined if he has a lawyer.
