CENTREVILLE, Va. (AP) - Police say a 6-year-old boy who wandered from a Centreville public school has been found.

The Fairfax County Police Department said in a statement that the boy was found Tuesday afternoon about a mile away from the school.

London Towne Elementary Principal Sigrid Ryberg says the boy left the school around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday as his class was transitioning from the classroom to recess.

A motorist spotted the child walking near an intersection and contacted authorities. Officers responded, notified the school and took the boy home.

Ryberg says the school has revised its recess supervision protocols and procedures to ensure students are safe and accounted for.

Authorities have not filed charges and are not investigating the incident further.
