CHANDLER, Ariz. (AP) - Chandler police are seeking victims of a money scam they say was orchestrated by suspects in a drug investigation.

Det. Seth Tyler said Thursday that detectives in the department’s narcotics unit looking into drug sales found evidence the suspects ran a “black money scam.”

According to the FBI, the scam involves depicting black construction paper as real U.S. currency that has supposedly been dyed black.

A victim is offered the phony currency in exchange for payment for a chemical that will wash the dye off and return the money to its original state.

Authorities say the scammer typically disappears with the money while the victim is left with nothing but black construction paper.

Tyler says investigators believe there are more victims in this case who have yet to come forward.
