POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (AP) - The sloop Clearwater will officially relaunch on the Hudson River on July 4 after months of repairs.

Workers in Kingston this winter stripped planks off the hull and replaced parts of the iconic sloop’s frame. The restoration work came decades after folk music legend Pete Seeger helped launch the Clearwater in the 1960s as a symbol of efforts to rid pollution from the Hudson River.

The group that operates Clearwater says it will host a public dockside re-launch ceremony in Poughkeepsie on the evening of July 4.

About 500,000 people have set foot on the Clearwater, many of them children on class trips.
