FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) - Coconino County officials say an inmate has taken his own life.

They say county detention facility officers found an unresponsive inmate while conducting a welfare check Thursday afternoon.

Officers say 38-year-old Alvin Omar Berrios-Martinez was discovered hanging by a sheet in the shower of a medical unit holding area.

They say there are no signs of foul play.

Berrios-Martinez was transported to Flagstaff Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead around 2:45 a.m. Friday.

He was in custody on a warrant for failing to appear in Flagstaff Justice Court on felony charges related to destruction of jail property.

Authorities Berrios-Martinez was living as a transient in Mohave County at the time of his arrest.
