PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Police say a man followed a woman on a popular Philadelphia trail and slashed her on the forehead after saying “You don’t know anything.”

Police say the 24-year-old woman had been walking with another person on the Schuylkill River Trail Thursday afternoon when they noticed a man following them.

Police say he attacked her with a sharp object when she began walking up a bridge stairwell.

She escaped and sought safety in a nearby building. She was rushed to a hospital and has been treated for a three-inch cut. She is in stable condition.

City Councilman Kenyatta Johnson says a volunteer safety program will be launched this month.

Police spokesman Lt. John Stanford says a person of interest was taken into custody Friday morning.

Investigators are reviewing surveillance video.
