SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) - A 10-year-old girl and a 19-year-old woman have been struck by gunfire in Springfield, but both are expected to survive.

The woman was struck in the buttocks and the girl was struck in the leg at about 4:30 p.m. Thursday. Both were treated at the scene then taken to the hospital where they were reported to be in good condition.

Witnesses told police a black male with a Mohawk-style haircut pulled up in a car, got into an altercation with a group of people, then pulled the gun and opened fire.

It’s unclear if the woman was the intended target or knew the suspect but the girl was struck by a stray bullet.

No arrests had been announced as of Friday morning.
