BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Police say a four-hour standoff at a Burlington apartment house where a woman had holed up after threatening neighbors with a bat has ended safely.

Authorities arrived at the building just after 6 p.m. Thursday. Police say a woman was refusing to come out of her apartment after she reportedly said she’d go after others in the building with the bat.

The incident ended after 10:30 p.m. with police officers, negotiators and mental-health professionals at the scene.

Police say officers were able to gain entry into the apartment and safely take her into custody. She wasn’t injured.

Chief Brandon Del Pozo says she will be getting some medical treatment and an evaluation.

Some of the units were evacuated.
