EASTON, Pa. (AP) - Police are investigating whether a 14-year-old student fell or jumped from the rear emergency door of her school bus in eastern Pennsylvania.

Easton police say the Easton Area Middle School student was taken to a hospital with unspecified injuries after the incident about 12:20 p.m. Thursday. That was the last day of school for students in that district.

John Remaley, the district’s director of safe schools, say initial reports indicate this was “a deliberate and planned action by the students” on the bus.

Police haven’t said whether the bus was moving at the time. But Capt. Scott Casterline says it doesn’t appear the student’s jump or fall was the result of any criminal activity.

Police say initial witness reports indicate the girl opened the door and jumped out.

Her condition and name haven’t been released.
