KINGSTON, N.Y. (AP) - Closing statements are set in the murder trial of a Hudson Valley dentist charged with fatally poisoning his lover’s husband.

Testimony wrapped up Thursday in Ulster County Court, where 49-year-old Gilberto Nunez of Poughkeepsie is on trial for the killing of Thomas Kolman of Saugerties (SAW’-ger-teez) nearly five years ago.

The 44-year-old Kolman’s body was found inside his vehicle in a gym’s parking lot outside Kingston in November 2011. Prosecutors say Nunez used a medical sedative to kill Kolman, whose wife was having an affair with the dentist. Nunez is charged with second-degree murder.

His defense lawyer says Nunez is innocent of the charges and was nowhere near the parking lot the day Kolman died.

Closing statements will be made Friday, with jury deliberations expected to begin Monday.
