SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) - Police in Scottsdale are investigating the death of a man who was being detained in a city jail.

They say 41-year-old Romero Slim was arrested last Friday by Phoenix police for an outstanding Scottsdale warrant.

Slim was transferred to Scottsdale police and booked into jail after completing a medical questionnaire.

Police say Slim was placed in a cell with other detainees.

Around 7 p.m. Friday, the other detainees in the cell alerted the jail staff that Slim wasn’t breathing.

Scottsdale detention officers immediately began CPR called the Scottsdale Fire Department.

Slim was transported Slim to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 8:30 p.m.

Police say Slim wasn’t combative with officers and no force was used on him while he was in custody.

The cause of death isn’t known.
