TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - A Tucson-area man who pleaded guilty except insane in the death of his wife last year has been sentenced to life in the state mental hospital.

Pima County authorities say 62-year-old George Majewski was accused of strangling his wife last year.

Last month, he pleaded guilty except insane to a first-degree murder charge.

Authorities say Majewski called 911 on April 12, 2015 and said he had choked his 51-year-old wife, who was a prominent Oro Valley veterinarian.

County sheriff’s deputies found Dr. Kerman Dubash unresponsive on the floor of the couple’s home.

Authorities say Dubash died more than a week later when she was taken off of life support.

Majewski also was a former veterinarian. He reportedly lost his license several years ago after a threatening run-in with a client.
