NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. (AP) - Aiken County sheriff’s deputies are investigating the shooting death of a 73-year-old North Augusta man.

Coroner Tim Carlton said in a statement that J.C. Mims was apparently shot about 10:45 p.m. Monday and died about 45 minutes later at the Augusta (Georgia) University Medical Center.

Sheriff’s Capt. Eric Abdullah said in a statement Tuesday that a witness told investigators they heard several gunshots and saw someone run from the area. Abdullah said the witness was not able to provide a description.

No arrests have been made.

Carlton said an autopsy is planned Tuesday in Newberry.
