BALTIMORE (AP) - Authorities say a fire damaged a block of 14 rowhouses in East Baltimore, but no one was injured.

Fire department spokesman Capt. Roman Clark says firefighters were called to Eaton Street in Highlandtown just before 4 a.m. Tuesday for a report of a fire and the blaze spread to 14 homes, including three that collapsed. He says it took 94 firefighters about an hour to control the blaze.

Clark says residents reported being awakened by smoke alarms. He says the fire spread rapidly since there are no firestops between the homes.

The American Red Cross of the Greater Chesapeake Region says it is helping 31 displaced residents.

Fire officials estimate damage at $200,000.

The cause is under investigation.
