NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Hundreds of people have gathered to pay their respects to a New Orleans police officer who died after being injured in a crash.

Multiple news outlets report the funeral for 11-year veteran officer Natasha Hunter was held Monday at Greater St. Stephens Full Gospel Baptist Church.

Family, friends and police officers from cities as far away as Atlanta and Houston attended the memorial service.

Thirty-two-year-old Hunter died June 7 after suffering a massive brain injury when she was struck by a drunken driver June 5 in a traffic collision on Interstate 10 East.

The driver, 33-year-old Chau Thai Nguyen, was arrested on charges of vehicular homicide and reckless operation of a vehicle.

Hunter, who joined the police department in December 2004, leaves behind a 5-year-old daughter.
