GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say an investigation is ongoing after a man was fatally shot when he pointed a gun at an officer following a holdup at a credit union in western Michigan.

Grand Rapids police said in a statement Tuesday that 38-year-old Frank Anthony Kelley of Kent County died in Monday morning’s shooting.

Police chased a car through three communities until calling off the pursuit when the driver became more reckless on the road. Two Kentwood officers later found the stopped car. Cash was on the ground and inside the vehicle.

Police say the driver saw the officers and started running before he was shot in a backyard in Grand Rapids.

The Kentwood officers are on administrative leave. The robbery took place in the nearby community of Wyoming.
