WARWICK, R.I. (AP) - A Richmond man charged with the apparently random fatal beating of a 62-year-old man at his West Greenwich home has been held without bail.

Police say 34-year-old Christian Lepore was acting erratically and may have been on drugs when he came across John O’Neil on May 28.

O’Neil called 911 after the 34-year-old Lepore appeared at his home. Police don’t think they knew each other. Prosecutors say O’Neil’s screams could be heard on the recording.

The first officer on the scene says he heard grunting and saw a naked Lepore standing over O’Neil’s body. Police say he was beaten to death.

Lepore’s lawyer questioned the police report and the handling of the 911 recording at Monday’s court hearing.
