HUTCHINSON, Kan. (AP) - A man has pleaded guilty to a reduced charge in a fatal New Year’s Day stabbing in Hutchinson.

The Hutchinson News (https://bit.ly/1Q15kQJ ) reports that 34-year-old Kevin Ginn Jr. admitted Monday to a single count of involuntary manslaughter in the death of 24-year-old Deshamus Luckey. Ginn originally was charged with second-degree murder or an alternate count of voluntary manslaughter. Under the plea agreement, prosecutors also dropped a charge of aggravated battery.

Sentencing is set for July 22. Both sides have agreed to recommend a term of 7 ½ years in prison.

Ginn is accused of confronting Luckey at a party and stabbing him after the two men sparred earlier at two different bars. At the first bar, Luckey purportedly struck Ginn in the head. At the second, an officer separated them.
