BLOOMSBURG, Pa. (AP) - State police say the body of a missing 79-year-old northeastern Pennsylvania woman has been found in a river, several miles from where her abandoned vehicle was found.

Troopers from the Hazleton barracks say Mary Jo Meyers left her home in Dorrance Township about 9 a.m. that day. That’s near Wilkes-Barre, about 30 miles southwest of Scranton.

Authorities say they found the woman’s vehicle in Berwick the next morning and, on Monday, her body was found in the Susquehanna River in South Centre Township, Columbia County. That’s about 30 miles west of where she was from, and is also downriver from where her vehicle was found several miles away.

The cause of her death remained under investigation Tuesday. The coroner did not immediately return a request for comment.
