SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (AP) - Police say a man was shot and killed by police detectives in Schenectady (skeh-NEHK’-ta-dee) after he approached officers who were sitting inside a parked car and pulled a gun on them.

Authorities say 33-year-old Joshua Sciscm (SKIH’-sihm) walked up to the plainclothes detectives Monday evening, lifted his shirt and showed he had a gun.

Police say the detectives then exited the car and drew their weapons after identifying themselves. That’s when police say Sciscm pulled his gun and pointed it at the detectives. One detective fired several times at Sciscm and wounded him. He later died at a Schenectady hospital.

It wasn’t immediately known if Sciscm fired his gun.

Police say they will release the names of the detectives involved on Tuesday.
