ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) - Rochester’s new city-owned marina on the Genesee River is open for business.

Mayor Lovely Warren was joined by other local officials for Monday’s ceremonial ribbon cutting for the $22 million marina, located on the river’s west bank near where it empties into Lake Ontario. The marina covers nearly five acres and has slips for 84 boats.

Officials say the marina will help ongoing efforts to boost economic activity around the Port of Rochester by drawing tourists to Charlotte (shahr-LAHT’), the city’s waterfront neighborhood.

The marina was originally scheduled to open in the spring of 2015. Issues between the original contractor and the city resulted in the city hiring another company to finish excavation work for the project.
