JULIAN, N.C. (AP) - Guilford County deputies say a man shot his friend who was spending the night at his home after the guest tried to steal prescription medicine.

Sheriff BJ Barnes said in a news release that his officers were called to the home around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Barnes says the resident of the home caught his friend going through his prescription medicine.

The sheriff says the two men argued, before the guest was shot in the foot. The friend was treated and released from the hospital.

Barnes says the shooting is still under investigation and no charges have been filed. He did not release the names of the resident or guest.
