CAMDEN, N.J. (AP) - A Texas man who allegedly strangled his girlfriend in New Jersey nearly six years ago has been indicted on a murder charge.

A Camden County grand jury handed up the indictment against 47-year-old Timothy Simon. It was made public Tuesday.

The charge stems from the 2010 death of 31-year-old Lawanda Strickland. She was found dead on a couch in the couple’s Camden home, and an autopsy determined she was strangled.

Authorities charged Simon after prosecutors say DNA evidence connected him to the slaying. He had been awaiting trial on a charge of aggravated assault at the time of Strickland’s death.

Investigators tracked the 47-year-old man to Houston and arrested him there in January. He remains jailed on $1 million bail.

It wasn’t clear Tuesday if Simon has retained an attorney.
