MILTON, Fla. (AP) - A Florida Panhandle woman has been sentenced to three years in prison for fatally shooting her stepfather.

The Pensacola News Journal (https://goo.gl/asBkZf) reports that 20-year-old Taylor Lynn Crongeyer was sentenced Monday. She pleaded no contest in April to manslaughter with a weapon.

Authorities say 40-year-old Aubrey Dewayne Cooley was found shot in the head behind the Milton home where he and Crongeyer lived in December 2014.

A Santa Rosa County judge agreed to a lower-than-normal sentence because of the circumstances around the killing. A doctor reported that Crongeyer had a history of being physically, emotionally and sexually abused by Cooley and that she suffered post-traumatic stress disorder and depression as a result.

Crongeyer reportedly said she accidentally shot Cooley after he physically assaulted her and attempted to sexually assault her.
