DENVER (AP) - A Denver woman accused of beating her 2-month-old daughter to death has been sentenced to 35 years in prison.

The Denver Post reports (https://goo.gl/FeIeYW ) 23-year-old Kelsy Newell-Skinner was sentenced Monday for the death of her daughter, Natalee Hurst-Skinner. Newell-Skinner pleaded guilty in February to second-degree murder.

The infant was admitted to the hospital July 27, 2014, with multiple signs of abuse. Doctors discovered she had multiple skull fractures, broken ribs, severe bruising, bite marks on her thigh and brain damage.

Natalee died four days later.

An arrest affidavit says Newell-Skinner texted her ex-boyfriend saying “she must have been very drunk last night because she just woke up and the baby had been beaten.”
