WARRIOR, Ala. (AP) - Two people have been found guilty of animal cruelty after dozens of pets were found abandoned at an Alabama home.

Al.com reports (https://bit.ly/1YrhsMH) 38-year-old Ricky Leroy Thomason and 30-year-old Elizabeth McGraw will each spend 90 days behind bars after being convicted of the charges Tuesday.

Greater Birmingham Humane Society officials say rescue workers found 51 animals, including puppies, turtles, dogs, cats and kittens, at the couple’s Warrior home in April.

GBHS spokeswoman Holly Baker says some of the animals were dead when found; others died in the following days or were euthanized due to medical conditions. Thirty-six of the animals survived and are being held at the humane society.

Authorities said they believe the owners had been gone for at least two weeks prior to the animals being discovered.
