MIAMI (AP) - Authorities say a driver was shot and wounded by a police officer after fleeing a restaurant parking lot close to Miami International Airport.

Miami-Dade police report in a news release that the incident occurred early Wednesday while 21-year-old Bernardo Castaneda Jr. was among a group of drivers.

Police say Castaneda fled from the parking lot after patrol officers asked him for identification. Authorities say an officer broke Castaneda’s car window, and shots were fired.

No details have been released as to whether Castaneda was armed or whether he aimed the moving car at police.

Castaneda drove himself to a nearby hospital. He was in stable condition.

Police say Castaneda and both officers involved in the shooting are white.

Castaneda has been charged with fleeing and eluding.
