PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A parks department employee is being called a hero for helping his co-workers get to safety during a large fire in a building at Roger Williams Park in Providence.

WPRI-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1YqsaCG ) the fire on Monday sent seven firefighters to the hospital with minor injuries. But everyone inside escaped due in part to David Doti.

Officials say Doti spotted the fire and ran up to the second floor of the carriage house, where three office workers were inside. Doti says he alerted the workers to the fire and helped them get out of the building.

Investigators haven’t determined the cause of the fire. A city spokesperson says it didn’t appear to be suspicious.

The city is working with its insurance company to assess the damage and the cost of repairs.
