GILLETTE, Wyo. (AP) - The Buckskin mine is laying off more employees as the coal industry in northeast Wyoming continues to struggle.

The mine’s parent company, Kiewit Mining Group, announced 45 layoffs from Buckskin, which has seen coal production drop dramatically since 2010.

The Gillette News Record reports (https://bit.ly/1Q4iYTg ) that Buckskin is the first Powder River Basin coal mine to announce a second round of layoffs since the beginning of the year.

Three months ago, the mine announced 38 workers were losing their jobs.

Last year, the mine employed more than 230 full-time workers.

The new layoffs brings the mine’s workforce to about 150.
