ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - The co-winner of this year’s Scripps National Spelling Bee is being honored at the state Capitol.

Thirteen-year-old Jairam Hathwar (JAY’-rahm HATH’-wahr) of Painted Post in the Southern Tier will be recognized Wednesday by the state Assembly and Senate. He shared first place in the National Spelling Bee last month with an 11-year-old from Texas.

Jairam will be accompanied by his parents and an older brother who was National Spelling Bee co-champion in 2014.

Jairam is a seventh-grader at The Alternative School for Math & Science in Corning.
