SYDNEY (AP) - Police on Wednesday identified a body found off Sydney’s Bondi Beach as American student Endicott Ackerman, who became the fourth person killed in recent storms on the Australian east coast.

The 20-year-old University of Sydney student from Clifton, Virginia, was last seen on June 6 jumping from rocks into the storm swell.

Police said in a statement that they used dental records to confirm that a body found off Bondi over the weekend was the science student.

Three other people died during the storms. Two men drowned in vehicles swept off roads by floodwaters in New South Wales state. Another man drowned after floodwaters flipped his truck in the Australian Capital Territory.

The storms whipped up waves as high as 12 meters (40 feet), which caused severe beach erosion and forced hundreds of coastal residents to evacuate.

The storms knocked out power to more than 85,000 homes and businesses. Nearly 300 people needed to be rescued from flooded areas across New South Wales, the state emergency services agency said.
