SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say a veteran San Jose police motorcycle officer has died from his injuries after being struck by a car.

San Jose Police Chief Eddie Garcia says 34-year-old Michael Katherman riding his police motorcycle when it collided with a minivan making a left turn Tuesday afternoon.

Garcia says the 11-year veteran died in a hospital hours later.

Garcia says the driver stayed at the scene after the crash and that he has not been detained. He says there are no indications that drugs or alcohol played a role.

The San Jose Mercury News reports Katherman was married with two school-age sons.
