ATLANTIC BEACH, N.Y. (AP) - A search for a Long Island paddleboarder who went missing over the weekend has been called off.

Officials say 41-year-old Gary Turkel went missing Sunday afternoon and was last seen paddleboarding near his Atlantic Beach home. He was not wearing a life jacket.

WCBS-TV reported (https://cbsloc.al/1UbMbgU ) Tuesday evening that the Coast Guard has called off the search.

Safety patrol volunteers in Queens and Brooklyn say they will continue searching for the man.

Volunteers have been searching as far as Fire Island, about 30 miles east of his home.
