BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Mark Whitehead is replacing Jake Bell as the Southeastern Conference’s coordinator of men’s basketball officials.

The SEC announced Bell’s resignation and Whitehead’s appointment on Wednesday.

Whitehead is a 31-year veteran of college basketball officiating who has worked five NCAA Final Fours.

He has worked regularly as an official in a number of leagues, including the SEC, Big 12, Big Ten and Pac-12. Whitehead also was chosen to work the NCAA Tournament 22 consecutive seasons, including 18 times in the regional round.

Bell had held the job since 2013 after serving a similar role in the Atlantic Sun.
