CEDAR CITY, Utah (AP) - A small wildfire southwest of Cedar City is threatening about 20 scattered homes and outbuildings as gusty winds drive the flames north.

U.S. Forest Service spokeswoman Cigi (SEE-gee) Burton says no evacuations or road closures were in place Wednesday evening.

Burton says the lightning-caused fire broke out Wednesday morning and was less than a square mile by early evening.

She says winds gusts reaching 40 miles per hour were too strong for aircraft to fly and help fight the flames. She says firefighters were only working on the ground to try and pen in the wildfire.

Winds were expected to keep up for several hours.

Burton says residents will be notified by an automated calling system if evacuations are ordered.
