EDGEWATER, Md. (AP) - Authorities have charged a North Beach woman in a Valentine’s Day crash that killed a newlywed couple.

Anne Arundel County police said in a statement Wednesday that 27-year-old Lauren Scott has been charged with homicide by motor vehicle while impaired, criminally negligent manslaughter by motor vehicle and other offenses. Scott’s being held on $1 million bail.

Police say Scott’s car crossed the center line on an Edgewater road on Feb. 14 and struck a car head-on, killing the driver, 21-year-old Daniel Amos, and his 20-year-old wife, Kayla. Police say the California, Maryland, couple was celebrating their six-month anniversary.

Charging documents state that Scott acknowledged using marijuana and heroin before the crash and medical records show she tested positive for the drugs. Her attorney said she will be pleading not guilty.
