PHOENIX (AP) - Police say a man fatally attacked a woman with a knife and then fled a Phoenix beauty and barbershop.

Police spokesman James Holmes said Saturday that 52-year-old Jose Rubio Figueroa has been booked into jail on first-degree murder.

Officers were called Friday morning to Super Imagen Beauty and Barber Shop.

They found 48-year-old Maria Rivera on the floor with severe cutting injuries.

She was pronounced dead.

Holmes says Figueroa called 911 about 30 minutes later to report he had been injured at the barbershop.

Officers located him at a park with the victim’s car.

Investigators say there is cause to believe the two got into an altercation and Figueroa allegedly attacked Rivera with a knife.

It was not immediately known if Figueroa had an attorney.
