KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - A 19-year-old northwest Missouri man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for an attempted robbery that led to the shooting death of his best friend.

Tristian Allen Wilton of Excelsior Springs pleaded guilty in April to first-degree attempted robbery. In exchange, prosecutors dropped a second-degree murder charge tied to the shooting death of Tyler Eddington, also of Excelsior Springs.

Circuit Judge Shane T. Alexander on Friday sentenced Wilton to 15 years, the maximum allowed under Missouri law.

The Kansas City Star reports (https://j.mp/1PzMScB ) that Eddington was mortally wounded Oct. 14 in a restaurant parking lot when he and Wilton tried to rob a drug dealer. Prosecutors say Wilton devised the plan to rob the drug dealer of cash and marijuana.

The dealer who shot Eddington hasn’t been charged.
