CLEAR LAKE, Iowa (AP) - Police in the north-central Iowa town of Clear Lake are asking for the public’s help in finding those responsible for a string of mailbox vandalism.

Clear Lake Police Chief Pete Roth says the department has taken nearly 40 reports of mailboxes being damaged by a bat or heavy object this week.

The Mason City Globe Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/1Yz0dcg ) that a night patrol officer discovered initial damage around 1 a.m. Wednesday. Residents continued to report damage throughout the day.

Much of the damage was reported on Clear Lake’s North Shore.

The incidents are under investigation by police and the U.S. Postal Service.

Residents whose mailboxes were damaged can pick up their mail at the Clear Lake Post Office. Postal carriers will resume deliveries once the mailboxes are fixed or replaced.
